I am an entrepreneur currently living in San Francisco though I grew up in and lived in Chicago for multiple decades. In addition to my current company, Nearness Function (an ad network and brand marketing firm) I also run MeshForum a non-profit conference and series of events on the study of Networks. I've been blogging for many years both for my own personal blogs and as a guest blogger/occasionally contributor for many other blogs, mostly on technology and entrepreneurship topics. While I do also write fiction and poetry, most of my writing these days is non-fiction orientated.
I use and participate in many online social networks as well as help organize a variety of offline events and gatherings - from occasional dinner parties to multi-day conferences. My primary personal blog is Searching for the Moon (see link below) and my new professional blog is Slow Brand. I may forward my personal blog posts (or at least some of them if I can figure out how to select some but not all) here to LiveJournal but primarily I'll use this account to follow friends who are on LiveJournal and to comment on their blogs.
Since I learned to read I've been a Science Fiction and Fantasy fan. In high school I started a science fiction convention and then after starting one started to also attend others. That convention (OpCon) is as far as I know still going on now nearly 20+ years later. I've been to many GenCons (in the 80's and early 90's), multiple WorldCons, a World Fantasy, many regional to Chicago conventions, and at to Wiscon at least 6 times. In recent years I've somewhat randomly made it to ComicCon in NYC and WonderCon here in San Francisco, may go to ComicCon in San Diego this year as well.
I'm a huge Dr. Who fan, far more so than of any US TV show (though I've also been catching up on Buffy and Angel via DVDs). I've seen every episode of Doctor Who that still exists, as well as most of the spinoffs (still haven't seen the K9 spinoff from many years back).
In addition to reading and writing and Internet stuff (which I've been doing since 1991 on the Internet and been programming since I was 7) I'm very serious about food. I collect great restaurants and pride myself in knowing how to organize group dinners. I'm also a serious cook generally cooking local, seasonal, mostly organic foods (in a variety of styles and most definitely from the perspective of an omnivore though I usually include a lot of vegetarian and even some vegan dishes in any party I throw).
And in case you care, I'm straight, male and single. Ethnically I am Jewish though I was raised Catholic (Father's religion) and consider myself an atheist.
